Situated on a sleepy seaside town on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula, Shoreham House is an architectural wonder of a home by Borland Architecture. Travel down a long, winding laneway to encounter a refurbished windmill and a new set of stables to house the owners’ beloved horses. The owners of this sleek utilitarian haven wanted a space with beachfront views from every room, a durability that could withstand the toughest of climates, and a contemporary coastal edge.
Borland Architecture worked tirelessly to curate a home that is designed with the needs and daily happenings of its inhabitants’ lives in mind. Natural materials are woven together seamlessly – think timber, bluestone, concrete, and glass – to give Shoreham House an aura of permanence, richness, and serenity. As solid and practical as the structure appears to be, it is just as much a welcoming home that exudes comfort and pleasure.
The elegant, long-lasting nature of the materials used in Shoreham House are particularly evident in the kitchen. A tasteful backdrop of blonde timber compliments a large, custom-made concrete benchtop by the interior artisans over at Concrete Collective.
The entire building has a fluid, accessible appeal as one room softens naturally into another, encouraging a sense of openness and expansiveness toward the ocean. One thing is clear – Shoreham House is a home built to endure the test of time with innovative, intelligent design features that’ll age gracefully alongside the family who occupies its space.
