The stunning visual effect of combining tradition with modernism is executed immaculately at Hill House by Madeleine Blanchfield Architects. The original 1900s cottage’s extension in the ‘80s had significant flaws so the architectural goal was to accentuate the heritage charm with subtle contemporary enhancements. The addition of a new staircase and two-storey extension brought this space to life with the perfect juxtaposition between old and new.

Walking into Hill House isn’t too different to escaping away to a meditation retreat somewhere private and serene – it feels otherworldly in a sense. Scandinavian minimalism meets classic old-world appeal at Hill House, with warm, light, and airy timber features complemented with stark, cool-toned features in the form of soft furnishings, flooring, and walls.

The blonde wood-laden kitchen adds visual interest, its soft timber finishes sweeping across the ceiling, walls, and bench giving the space definition and a sense of cosiness. The bathroom is entirely contrastive to the other rooms, and is a particular standout with its virtually all-white interior giving the space a clean, spacious look and feel. Think sleek, curved lines in the shape of a silkstone bathtub – the true centrepiece of the room – alongside Pegasi range brushed chrome tapware, all brought together by the tapware experts at Faucet Strommen.

The interior styling wonders at Atelier Lab cleverly tied Hill House together with eclectic art pieces dotted throughout the home with textured furnishings in stark greys, creams, whites and blues. Delicious.
